Heart Nail Art Design
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, nail artist Holly Falcone shows you how to flawlessly create this pretty, heart-inspired ombré look below in just a few easy steps.
Step by Step:
1. Prep and paint. After you’ve filed your nails into a shape that mimics your cuticles (the most flattering of nail shapes), pushed back your cuticles — remember, DO NOT CUT THEM! — and applied a basecoat, swipe on two coats of a creamy, pale pink shade and let it dry completely. Hand model Kate Winick used Floss Gloss Pro Nail Lacquer in “Dinge.”
2. Create the arches of the first heart. Crisscross two hole-punch reinforcements (you can pick these up at any office supply store) so they create two arches of a heart.
3. Paint on a bubblegum-pink polish from the stickers to the tips of your nails. Kate used Zoya Nail Polish in “Kitridge.” Be sure to remove the stickers while the paint is still drying (after a minute or so), so it settles and dries perfectly; if you pull them off too late, the paint will be gummy and leave behind residue.
4. Continue creating the ombré effect. After the pink polish is completely dry, repeat step two, overlapping the hole reinforcements closer to the tip of your nail, and then paint the tip a bright true red. Again, pull the stickers off before the paint is dry. Kate used Floss Gloss Nail Pro Nail Lacquer in “Gangsta Boo.”
Finally, apply a quick-dry topcoat over it, like Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
